Identification

It is strongly advised to contact the Curator before dispatching cultures for identification. The Curator will inform you the probable date for culture submission. Unless indicated otherwise by the customer, a culture received for identification may be kept in the collection if it is found to be of importance to the MTCC. A culture data sheet, which can be downloaded from MTCC website or copied from the printed catalogue, needs to be filled for each culture and sent along with the culture. Please make sure to send only pure and sporulating cultures.

Regular identification of bacteria and yeasts are carried out on the basis of morphological, biochemical and physiological characteristics. For fungi, morphological and microscopic structures, and DNA sequence data are routinely used for identication purposes. MTCC normally takes eight to ten weeks to complete the identification process. Sincere efforts are always made to identify the cultures but the MTCC does not guarantee identification of each and every organism it receives and the fee is nonrefundable.
